The fashion calendar these days is so grueling that it’s got to be difficult for smaller brands to constantly turn out ever fresher product for the demands of PR girls and buyers. Sometimes, it’s evident when a designer has to “phone it in” a bit, as was the 3.1 Phillip Lim collection for Resort 2013.
The good news is that Lim is talented enough that even when it appears he’s no fully engaged, the clothes are still good. Florals popped up again- here in applique form on a few of the opening looks, and later as an engineered print that meshed the hem of some silk tops and waistband of the trousers (or midriff section of a dress) into one joined pattern. As usual the leather jackets were excellent-that bright powder blue one immediately made it onto my wishlist. Lim does wonderful soft, unconstructed, silky trousers and there was no shortage of new styles here. Paired with smart buttoned-up shirts and a hot new clutch bag in tangerine and mocha leather versions, the silhouette was fresh, neat and downtown chic. -RS (Images via Vogue.com)
